How to Buy an NFT (Beginner's Guide, No Jargon)

Buying your first NFT sounds intimidating, but it is mostly a few clicks once you know the steps. This guide walks you through it in plain English, whether you are using a wallet or buying from a creator's page with nothing but an email.

What you need to buy an NFT

For most purchases you need a crypto wallet and some crypto. But if you are buying from a mint site built with iMintify, you may be able to mint with just an email or a paper wallet, so beginners can collect without any crypto setup.

How to buy an NFT, step by step

  1. Set up a wallet. Install a free wallet like MetaMask (Ethereum, Polygon, Base) or Phantom (Solana).
  2. Add funds. Buy a little crypto for the chain the NFT is on, or use a card or email checkout where the creator offers it.
  3. Find the NFT. Browse a marketplace like OpenSea, Magic Eden or Tensor, or open a creator's mint page directly.
  4. Check it is legit. Confirm the collection is verified and the link is official before you connect anything.
  5. Buy or mint. Click buy or mint, confirm the total including the network fee, and approve. The NFT lands in your wallet.

Buying from a creator vs a marketplace

Buying on a marketplace means paying the listed price plus any marketplace fee. Buying from a creator's own mint page is often cheaper and sometimes lets you pay with an email. Creators who build with iMintify get exactly that kind of hosted mint page.
